DESTINATION: BLANDVILLE

We hear a lot of talk regarding change. It is said that Canada has just voted for change, that America wants change, and that the world is changing. The question is, what do the citizens of these places want from that change?

I have always believed that our country is one of the greatest on the planet, but that will not always be the case. Why? Because we keep changing. I understand that some change is necessary, but when do we decide that the recipe is just right? When do we say, “That’s enough salt.” As in everything else, sometimes too much of a good thing ruins the entire batch.

Can you imagine a planet where every country is the exact same? The exact same multi-cultural makeup, the same political machinery, the same values? What would that be like? Would it end war?

I believe that that is where we are headed. As every year passes, the nations of the earth become less of what they are known for, and more and more bland; just another nation. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, just that it is rather uninspiring.

It seems that our leaders are intent on casting away our uniqueness. Our Canadian values over the years have been cast aside as we have accepted and welcomed the values of other nations and other religions. I don’t think that anyone would disagree that our nation is nothing like it was even 20 years ago.

As more and more nations allow all of earth’s citizens to inhabit their borders, then they continue down the road of uniformity and blandness. Pretty soon all of our nations, with the exception of a very few, will pretty much have the same cultural makeup and the same watered down value system as every other nation.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds awfully boring to me.
