With the nomination of a supreme court justice coming up next week, the remake of “War of the Worlds” may have come out a little prematurely. In what promises to be the fight of the century, there may just be some new epic special effects unveiled in Washington that Spielberg could have utilized in his film.
Reading the New York Times, Time Magazine, and a few other supermarket tabloids, one would think that the world was going to end soon. In a way, it is. The world of judicial tyranny and constitution shredding is about to pass away, should President Bush hold his ground for what is right.
The liberal camp has had a heyday with the supreme court for years now, but with some huge decisions coming down in the next term, the timing for Mrs. O’Connor to step down couldn’t be any better.
The radical extremist fundamentalists on the left (There, we can use those words too. Cool.) have started with their hard left rhetoric, threatening Americans that George Bush is about to absolve their freedom. Yes, folks, he is going to sell you for oil! He is going to chain women everywhere to the wall and will force you to pray at gunpoint. Since when is nominating someone who can read the constitution and understand what it says a constitutional dilemma?
Come back down to reality. Fringe groups with nice sounding names like “People For The American Way” and “Civil Liberties Union” have fallen out of favor not because of some vast right wing conspiracy. To assert that, you would have to admit to be accusing your fellow citizens as being dumb as a hammer. No, these radical liberal groups are losing their power and office because of one reason. Quite simply, their ideology is stupid, has no basis in fact, does not succeed or work, and has damaged America.
The liberal groups are now demanding a nominee who is centrist, and not one who fits an ideological mold. Excuse me, but being centrist is just that. The left has not yet learned one important fact. When you aren’t in power, you don’t pick the nominees. Simple. When a democratic president comes to power, he will nominate whom he chooses as well, that is the way it works. It seems that as soon as they don’t have the ball, they want to change the rules of the game.
To be quite frank, I am surprised that “People For the American Way” hasn’t asked President Bush to nominate Diana Ross. I mean, it sounds so right.
There was a prayer spoken by Minister Joe Wright a while back when he was asked to open up a new session of the Kansas State Senate. It seems that he took everyone by surprise. Afterwards, his church received 5000 calls, 47 of which were negative. How is that for a poll? He must be the new mainstream in America and has found the pulse of the nation.
The prayer puts into perspective the current spiritual and political climate in the United States, so I will reprint it, as I could say it no better myself.
“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, “Woe to those who call evil good” but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that. We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word, and called it Pluralism; We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism; We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle; We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery; We have killed our unborn and called it choice; We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem; We have abused power and called it politics; We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition; We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression; We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, to open we ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen”
If ever a country needed to rescue itself from judicial tyranny, it is our neighbors to the south.
And then, of course, there is Canada. Our dilemma is a little different though. Our’s is a tyranny of one. And while we too open each session of Parliament with a prayer, we aren’t allowed to mention anyone by name here. SShhh.
